Assessing Assistant

The Town seeks candidates for the part-time (minimum of 20 hours per week year-round with benefits, including health insurance) position of Assessing Clerk/Office.  Responsibilities include: maintaining real estate property records and personal property files, performing field work including measuring and taking photographs, tracking building permit activity for assessing purposes, preparing memos and other documents, and assisting taxpayers.  Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well with the public are essential. Cedar Beach Monitors

The Town of Harpswell is hiring seasonal part-time Beach Monitors for Cedar Beach. This role includes monitoring the road and beach to ensure visitors adhere to the rules, answering questions from beachgoers, and helping maintain the area. Firefighter (Per-diem)

This is a unique opportunity to serve as a Firefighter for the Town of Harpswell. Harpswell has developed a model of fire and emergency response, which is focused on assisting and supporting the existing three volunteer fire departments during the daytime. This is a per-diem position to fill openings in the schedule Sunday through Saturday (6am-6pm).

Code Enforcement Officer
(Temporary with Opportunity for Future Employment)

The Town seeks candidates for the position of Code Enforcement Officer and will consider candidates interested in a full or part-time schedule with benefits. Primary functions of the position include but are not limited to the processing of applications for building, plumbing, subsurface wastewater disposal, floodplain, and wharf permits.  This position involves extensive interaction with the public.  The successful candidate will be expected to become familiar with local land use ordinances as well as the Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC).  Certifications in Code Enforcement, Local Plumbing, and MUBEC will be required over time.  Preference may be given to candidates with current or previous certifications and/or extensive experience in either building trades or municipal government. The successful candidate will be expected to assist the Planning Department. View the full job description
