Cliff Trail

Cliff Trail is one of the most popular trails in Harpswell. This trail traverses two parcels of land owned by the Town of Harpswell (acquired in 1978 and 2002) a total of approximately 194 acres. The idea for this trail was conceived in 2003 and the grand opening in 2006.
The main loop, Cliff Trail, is 2.3 miles and marked in YELLOW blazes. The shorter Cut-off Trail, 0.4 miles long, is marked in BLUE blazes and intersects with the Cliff Trail.
When starting the trail from the parking lot behind the town office, you begin walking on the inclusive 0.4-mile shore walk along tidal Strawberry Creek. This section features a nice view of the cascade and a resting area. This portion of the trail was updated in 2021 to make a smooth wide path that is inclusive and accessible for individuals with limited mobility or that use mobility devices. ***As of September 1, 2025: Dogs must be on leash at all times along this stretch of the trail***
Beyond the inclusive portion of the Cliff Trail, the trail is a backcountry style trail with rooty and rugged sections, elevation gain, some switchbacks over rocks and slight scrambling, leading you to spectacular views from 150-foot cliffs overlooking Long Reach. Please practice caution on the trail and enjoy at your own risk.
Fairy house zones were added in celebration and memory of Lindsey Perkins. They provide children and adults alike a place for play and creativity. Please note the Fairy House Ordinances and follow the posted rules when creating your fairy house.
The reach itself is a submerged valley that is now tidal mudflats. Across the Reach is the 90-acre Long Reach Preserve.
The island in Long Reach is unnamed.
